Summary

Sports law has come about in response to the needs of those involved in any sporting activity. It deals with the sport itself and those participating in it. Sports law deals with the supervision and regulation of the sport by national and international governing bodies and ensures discipline in sport to maintain its integrity.

Beyond the field, sports law is involved in adjusting liability between someone who has received bodily harm or suffered damage to property as a result of being associated with any sporting activity, whether as a participant, spectator, match official, passerby or neighbour to a sporting venue. Sports law also establishes relationships between parties to enable the commercialisation of sport and has made it international. Finally, there is national and international co-operation between nations in respect of sport and sports law.
